About Tanzania Kwanza Technologies
Biogas Expansion for a Greener Tanzania
Executive Summary
Our commitment to clean energy for Tanzania
Who We Are
Tanzania Kwanza Technologies (TKT) is a Tanzanian clean-energy enterprise dedicated to delivering affordable, sustainable, and reliable biogas and pure gas solutions to households, smallholder farmers, and institutions. The company envisions a future where every Tanzanian household enjoys access to clean energy, free from the health, economic, and environmental burdens of firewood and charcoal.
Our Goal
Through its flagship initiative — Biogas Expansion for a Greener Tanzania — TKT aims to install 5,000 domestic biogas systems across rural and peri-urban regions by 2030, empowering families with renewable energy for cooking and heating, while promoting the productive reuse of organic waste. The project aligns with Tanzania's National Energy Policy (2015), the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
The Problem
The challenges facing Tanzanian households
Deforestation & Environmental Impact
Across Tanzania, over 80% of households rely on firewood and charcoal for cooking. This dependence drives massive deforestation — estimated at over 400,000 hectares lost annually — and accelerates environmental degradation and climate change.
Health Crisis from Indoor Air Pollution
Indoor air pollution from open fires is a silent killer, contributing to over 30,000 premature deaths each year from respiratory and eye-related diseases, primarily affecting women and children. Beyond the health toll, traditional fuels demand hours of daily labor for firewood collection, robbing families of productive time and limiting opportunities for women and girls.
Waste Management & Limited Biogas Adoption
Thousands of tons of agricultural and household waste are left unused, releasing methane and creating sanitation challenges. While biogas offers a viable solution, uptake remains low due to limited awareness, high upfront costs, lack of technical support, and insufficient financing mechanisms. Tanzania urgently needs a scalable, community-driven clean energy model that transforms this waste challenge into an opportunity for energy, health, and income generation.
Our Solution
Innovative biogas systems for Tanzanian households
Affordable Biogas Technology
Tanzania Kwanza Technologies provides innovative biogas and pure gas systems that convert organic waste and animal dung into clean, affordable cooking gas and organic fertilizer. Our systems are designed and manufactured locally, optimized for Tanzanian conditions, and available in flexible models — fixed-dome and balloon digesters — to suit different household needs.
Comprehensive Support System
We provide technology access through affordable, durable biogas systems for households and small institutions. Our local capacity building program trains 100+ technicians and youth entrepreneurs in installation and maintenance. We conduct community awareness through demonstrations and education campaigns on biogas benefits, and establish decentralized hubs with 10 regional service centers for financing and support.
Circular Economy Integration
We promote bio-slurry as organic fertilizer to enhance soil fertility, creating a circular economy where waste becomes a valuable resource. This approach not only provides clean energy but also improves agricultural productivity, creating multiple benefits for households and communities.
The Impact
By 2030, Tanzania Kwanza Technologies will deliver measurable and lasting outcomes
